Use an official competition record to resolve an Olympic participation claim when that record is available; otherwise preserve the uncertainty. Robbie Manson’s sources offer a resolvable example. Viktor Thorup’s inspected creator descriptions show a difference that this comparison does not independently settle.
The point is to choose the source suited to the disputed fact, without turning a stale biography into an accusation about the account.
A count supported by named Games: Robbie Manson
Manson’s platform biography retained a two-time Olympian description while also mentioning Paris 2024. His public Instagram bio used three.
The New Zealand Olympic profile lists London 2012, Rio 2016 and Paris 2024. That supports the three-Games description. The evidence is the named participation record, not a preference for whichever biography was encountered last.
The inconsistent promotional wording does not by itself imply a false account. The published account chain can remain clear while one career detail needs updating.
A difference left unresolved here: Viktor Thorup
The Thorup OFTV description used two Olympic appearances, while the public Instagram description used three during inspection.
We did not establish an equivalent governing-body participation record for this comparison. It would therefore be wrong to use the Manson example as permission to declare the larger Thorup count correct.
The supported statement is narrower: the descriptions differ. His speed-skating identity and the source-linked account are separate questions.
A reusable comparison method
Scroll across the table on smaller screens.
| Step | Manson example | Thorup example |
|---|---|---|
| Record the conflicting claims | Two versus three | Two versus three |
| Locate the source closest to the fact | National Olympic participation profile | Not independently resolved here |
| Preserve the observation | Named Games support three | Difference remains visible |
| Avoid extending the finding | No inference about paid value | No invented current total |
Do not average the numbers, combine different competition labels or treat a creator’s social bio as an authoritative all-purpose record.
Why a fan might care
If you are reading about a particular Olympic appearance, the named Games and dated sporting record help locate the right material. If you simply want to identify the personal account, the official outgoing link may answer that task without resolving every career statistic.
Neither participation count tells you what a subscription includes. An account is not more informative, responsive or better value because a biography lists another Games.
Sources were checked on 30 September 2026. Our profile-discrepancy guide explains how to keep different fields and time periods separate. No subscriber access or current activity was tested.
